The Ensemble
The 60-member Trinity University Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs a variety of works for winds and percussion, including traditional marches, representative works from the standard wind band repertoire, and contemporary works of distinction. The ensemble rehearses four hours per week, is open to all students by audition, and as with all university ensembles, the participating student receives one academic credit per semester. During the past few years, composers who have worked with the ensemble include Eric Whitacre, Dana Wilson, John Frantzen, and Timothy Kramer. In the spring 2003 semester the ensemble performed the music of Sir Malcolm Arnold with the composer in attendance, and in the spring 2005 semester we hosted Ron Nelson in residency.
In addition to on-campus concerts, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble provides music for ceremonies at the University and undertakes a biannual tour. Locations visited include San Angelo, Abilene, and Austin, as well as Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Grants, New Mexico. In January 2005 the ensemble traveled to Washington, DC, and northern Virginia.
