What has Trinity meant to
you?
Trinity has been absolutely
incredible for me. It's a warm, family-like atmosphere where I've developed
meaningful relationships with students, faculty, and staff alike. The coupling
of challenging academics and a relaxed social life make for a fun and healthy
place to grow. I think the school has really played an active role in helping
me figure out who I am, and I'm confident that Trinity has given me the tools
to ensure my future success in whatever I choose to pursue.
What will be some of your best memories of Trinity?
My fondest memories will
definitely be of the great times I've had with my friends.
My freshman year we formed an
intramural sports team called the Ninjas that has somehow transformed into an
unofficial fraternity-sorority sort of thing. That whole phenomenon has led to
an unbelievable amount of fun and some of the strongest friendships I've ever
had. I'll never forget how honored I was
to be invited as a speaker for Dean Tuttle's roast. I had a great time embarrassing
him in front of the whole school. It was like a dream come true. He got me
pretty good though by sneaking in friendly insults the rest of the semester. I
think his leadership, humor, and charisma will be something I'll always
remember. One other thing that really meant a lot to me was the opportunity to
share my culture with my peers. I'm the first turbaned Sikh to go through
Trinity and I wasn't really sure whether or not I would be accepted in an
entirely new environment. So during my freshman year, I organized an event
where the Trinity community could learn about my faith and have turbans tied on
their heads. I had no idea what to expect, but it turned out that over 100
students, faculty, and staff ended up attending the program that day. I'll
never forget how touched I felt by the support of my peers.
How has your education
prepared you for life after college?
I'm going on to graduate
school, so from an academic perspective I feel like I have been well prepared
for the rigor of my future education. More significantly though, Trinity's
emphasis on a well-rounded education has really helped in the social,
spiritual, and political aspects of my life. Sometimes people forget that
college is more than just an academic institution, but I never will.
Favorite professors?
I think the majority of my
professors were amazing, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be C.
Mackenzie Brown from the religion department. His intellect is definitely
awe-inspiring, but more important and impacting for me is his commitment to
education and sincere efforts to impart personal growth for lifelong success to
each of his students. It's not common to find a professor able to converse with all students on a wide range of subjects. Whether talking sports, politics, or popular culture, Dr. Brown always has a way to connect with me. He
is a valuable resource as well as a great friend.
Any life changing
experiences?
The entire four years have
been a life-changing experience. And honestly, if it's not life-changing for
anyone, then I think something is wrong. It seems like college is a natural
developmental process and I am so thankful that Trinity offered me the support
and the resources to facilitate a growth that I am proud of. |
