Communication Management

Program Description

The interdisciplinary minor in Communication Management reflects the convergence now occurring in the study and practice of public relations, advertising, and marketing. The blurring of lines among these three fields means that people are now needed who can think in terms of integrated strategy and plan for the twenty-first century Information Age. All three industries want employees who can work strategically across functional areas and integrate organizational issues, while managing a variety of processes.

The Communication Management minor, with courses from the Departments of Communication, Business Administration, and Speech and Drama, offers excellent preparation for careers where managerial and communication skills are emphasized.

Courses from three traditionally differentiated disciplines - speech, communication, and business - focus on public relations and advertising principles, on marketing management and consumer behavior, and on organizational and persuasive communication. The result is the systematic study of a management process that is one of the most dynamic in today's business climate.
