Program Description
Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary study of the Earth's environment and human interaction with it. Environmental Studies is a program of breadth, not concentration, in which students address environmental issues from natural science, economic, and socio-cultural perspectives. The program includes required courses in anthropology, biology, economics, and geosciences, as well as electives in areas ranging from history to organic chemistry. Given the scope of the program, a significant overlap with a student's choice of Common Curriculum courses is both expected and encouraged.
We believe that the combination of a strong, traditional undergraduate major with a secondary focus in Environmental Studies is the best approach for any undergraduate who wants a career that involves environmental issues. Students who are interested in the natural sciences might major in biology, chemistry, engineering, geoscience, or physics. Students interested in environmental policy might major in economics, political science, or sociology. Students interested in communicating environmental concerns might major in communication, English, or art. Students combine a traditional Trinity major with a second interdisciplinary minor or major in Environmental Studies. This allows you to develop your own unique approach to our environment.
