Linguistics

Program Description

The minor in Linguistics provides students with an opportunity to study the principles involved in the most basic and universal of human communication - language. English and other modern languages share with the fields of anthropology, classical studies, computer science, drama, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and speech, an interest in the nature of language: how it is acquired, how it is used, and how it changes through time and across space. The minor in Linguistics allows students majoring in any discipline to pursue an in-depth understanding of the scientific analysis of language. More than 20 faculty, representing all three academic divisions at Trinity, teach the 30 approved courses.

Some Trinity students with a minor in Linguistics continue graduate study in related areas. Others work as teachers, translators, and interpreters, dealing with both natural and artificial languages.
