What has Trinity meant to
you?
Trinity has meant the world
to me. Being from
Oregon, I didn't want to go to a state
school with all my friends from high school. I hoped to find a smaller university where I could meet new people and
continue to grow as a person in the way that I wanted.
Trinity
University ended up being
that school. I have met so many fantastic people here that I love, and have had
such a blast with. I was lucky enough to
randomly find this school and wouldn't trade the experience for the world.
What will be some of your best memories of Trinity?
Being in the theatre
productions on campus, being on the Ninja Intramural Team; studying abroad in
Dublin, Ireland; laughing with everyone
all the time, writing music and performing for people, playing music at The
Well (a youth group on campus); playing ultimate Frisbee or other sports with
friends on the IM field; working in the scene shop of our theatre; teaching 1st
graders about poetry and mentoring a high school senior for an education practicum;
getting to know so many friends and professors; and random trips to different
places throughout my four years (Mardi Gras, floating the rivers of Texas, going
to ranches, etc.)
How has your education
prepared you for life after college?
Throughout my four years
here, Trinity has taught me how to organize everything that I have going on all
at once at any given time. I have
learned leadership, teamwork, better research and writing skills, and how to
work in a professional environment. Although many students get stuck in the “Trinity
Bubble,” I feel like I have kept a realistic head on my shoulders, so that I
can enter the outside world with confidence. As a drama major, a lot of your
friends think that you haven't done much over four years. But drama encompasses the disciplines of history,
English, performance, research, reading, and writing. So, with a Master of Arts in Teaching
certification to go along with all of that, I would say Trinity has prepared me
to go out and do all right for myself.
Favorite professors?
Stacey Connelly (Speech and Drama)
is so patient, helpful and intelligent. The woman is absolutely hilarious, and teaches in a way that makes you
want to learn more. You can count on her for anything and she has such a
passion for what she does. Tom Jenkins (Classical Studies), whose style of
teaching was incredible. He was unique and entertaining all the time. I took so much away from how he presented
material and thoroughly enjoyed him as a professor. Drama professors Steve
Gilliam and Tim Francis, who were always supportive in helping me to learn new
things in the drama department, I have gotten to work alongside both of these
men, and I have taken so much away from those experiences. They taught me about theatrical design,
construction, and teaching in general, which are skills I would not have picked
up otherwise.
Any life changing
experiences?
In general, coming to Trinity
was life changing. It was such a social
change, as well as geographic, and I feel that I am a better person for
it. All that I have learned and
experienced while I've been here will go with me wherever I end up in this
crazy world. When I look back on it, I
love and am genuinely appreciative of the fact that Trinity is where I received
my education and became friends with some of the best people I have ever met. |
