LAWRENCE ESPEY

Ovulation; physiology; population growth rates

Distinguished professor of biology and physiologist; discoverer of the ovulation process (how the egg is released by the ovary); considered one of the world’s leading experts in the field of ovulation, which he discovered is an inflammatory process facilitated by the release of hormones from the brain; has been awarded more than $2 million in research grants and contracts for basic research on ovulation. In addition to ovulation, other research interests include development of improved methods of birth control and the growth rate of the human population and its effect on the global environment.
