Lois Boyd

September 25, 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lois Boyd, former assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and wife of former Executive Director of Admissions and professor emeritus George Boyd. Mrs. Boyd died Sunday, September 24, 2007, in Denver, Colo., following a brief illness.

Mrs. Boyd retired from Trinity University in 2000 following 27 years of service, first as editor and then director of the Trinity University Press, followed by 11 years in the Office of Academic Affairs. During her tenure in Academic Affairs, she was central to its operation, serving pivotal roles in expediting major projects, including the successful completion of the University’s last accreditation report. Mrs. Boyd was an astute editor and publisher and her mastery of detail was legendary.

Mrs. Boyd also authored and co-authored several books and essays and published articles in academic journals and encyclopedias, as well as book reviews. Her honors include the Presbyterian Historical Society’s Distinguished Service Award, an award from the San Antonio Conservation Society for her editorial skills, and the Fern Malsbury Award for loyalty, commitment, and service to Trinity University.

Mrs. Boyd is survived by her husband, George, daughter, Carol Stephenson, and husband Bruce, and grandchildren Erik and Claire Stephenson. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. in the Margarite B. Parker Chapel. The Rev. Raymond Judd, University Chaplain Emeritus, and the Rev. Doug Brackenridge, Trinity professor emeritus will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Trinity University scholarship fund or to Doctors Without Borders, P.O. 5030, Hagerstown, Md. 21741-5030.
