Creator of Award Winning Drama, "American Dreams" to Speak on

Producing Prime-Time Television

SAN ANTONIO - Jonathan Prince, creator and executive producer of "American Dreams," a two-time Emmy Award winning series on NBC, will speak on "Producing the Popular Arts: Producing Prime-Time Television" as part of Trinity University's 2005-2006 Stieren Arts Enrichment Series. Mr. Prince will discuss various careers in the television industry and address current challenges facing producers in the multi-channel, converging television area.  The event will begin at 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, in Chapman Auditorium and is free and open to all.

Mr. Prince has had a lengthy career in the television and film industry working as an actor, writer, director, and producer.  His acting credits include appearances on "Murphy Brown" and "LA Law" and he has directed shows such as "Blossom" and "Party of Five."

Most recently he was the creator and executive producer of "American Dreams," a television series set in Philadelphia in the 1960's about a family facing various cultural changes in society. The series incorporated "American Bandstand," Dick Clark's popular dance show into the plot (Dick Clark was also an executive producer of "American Dreams").  One of the trademarks of "American Dreams" was featuring contemporary pop music stars as pop stars from the 60s.  For example, LeAnn Rimes portrayed Connie Francis and Ashanti appeared as Dionne Warwick.  The series concluded in spring 2005 after running for three seasons and winning two Emmy awards.  In addition, the series won the "Top TV Series" honor from the ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards and was nominated for an "Outstanding New Program of the Year" award from the Television Critics Association.

The Stieren Arts Enrichment Series brings to Trinity's campus a distinguished array of outstanding leaders in the fields of art, music, drama, communication, literature, art history, and aesthetics.  It is made possible through an endowment created by Jane and the late Arthur Stieren of San Antonio.
