Trinity University To Hold 2005 Winter Commencement
SAN ANTONIO -- Trinity University will hold its winter commencement for 122 graduates and undergraduates at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Margarite B. Parker Chapel. Thirty-five graduate students and 87 undergraduates are expected to receive their degrees.
Sammye Johnson, professor and Carlos Augustus de Lozano Chair in Journalism at Trinity University, will deliver the commencement address. Professor Johnson received the Dr. and Mrs. Z.T. Scott Faculty Fellowship Award during the Spring 2005 commencement. The award is given annually for excellence in teaching, advising, and service to students.
Leslie Orman of Kingwood, Texas, will speak on behalf of the senior class. Ms. Orman is majoring in English with a minor in international studies. She has served as both vice president and president of the English honor society, been a member of the Trinity Activities Council, and served on the Spring Family Weekend committee. She also has been involved in numerous volunteer efforts, including a program to help middle school children paint and repair homes. On campus, she was a mentor for gifted elementary school students who come to Trinity on Saturday mornings for enrichment, and she was an intern in the Spanish Language Hall. She also studied abroad in Perugia, Italy, and at Oxford.
