Trinity University Undergraduate Wins Student Achievement Award A Year After Her Sister Does
The award is given annually by the San Antonio Colleges and Universities Placement Association (SACUPA) in recognition of students who have demonstrated high academic standards and volunteer or service work, and who have been recommended by career placement officers at their respective school. It includes a $500 prize.
"Our office chose Susan Beall this year to compete in the award pool as the Trinity nominee," said Becky Spurlock, director of career services at Trinity. "The pool was very competitive, but Susan stood out because of her academic achievement and involvement on campus.
This year's winner, Susan Beall, is a candidate for graduation in May 2006. She is majoring in economics with a concentration in theoretical economics and has a 3.8 cumulative grade point average. She has been a peer leader for the sorority body image study initiated by the psychology department at Trinity, was a first-year mentor, and is an independent tutor. She also has demonstrated leadership by participating in the Mathematical Society, the Economics Society, and the Association of Student Representatives.
Last year's winner, Sarah Beall, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a cumulative grade point average of 3.7.
Both women were peer tutors at Trinity, participated in intramural sports, and were members of the Catholic Student Group and Sigma Theta Tau, social sorority. In addition, both were inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta and Blue Key honor societies, held Trinity Presidential Scholarships, and were on the Trinity University Dean's List.
SACUPA is an organization of local career services professionals committed to enhancing career center services and employment opportunities for students and alumni, providing professional development opportunities in career counseling and placement, and promoting cooperation among career services offices.
In addition to Trinity, other member schools are Northwest Vista College, Our Lady of the Lake University, St. Mary's University, St. Philip's College, San Antonio College, Schreiner University, Texas Lutheran University, Texas State University at San Marcos, University of the Incarnate Word, and University of Texas at San Antonio.
