Trinity's Health Care Administration Department Is Reaccredited

SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University's department of Health Care Administration has been reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. The reaccreditation status applies to both the department's traditional On-Campus Program and the Executive Program, each of which awards students master's degrees. Program alumni hold management and leadership positions in a variety of health care settings.

Mary Stefl, chair of the department, said the programs have been continuously accredited since 1968, although the agency performing the scrutiny has been known by another name, the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration. "We are delighted to be recognized once again," Professor Stefl said. "Although the reaccreditation process is a lot of work, it is a growth process that helps us look at our programs in a systematic way."

The commission cited several strengths of Trinity's program, including:

  • Outstanding relationships and support from alumni, an advisory council, and health care institutions in the San Antonio region.

  • Student relations and involvement as well as student academics, professional development, and career support.

  • Residency placement, which is viewed as a drawing card for prospective students and a highlight of the learning experience. This component was singled out for representing the program's vision of effectively integrating classroom and experiential learning and for "exceptional" management.

  • The University's library, computing, office, and classroom facilities.

In addition, the department's executive program recently was named one of the top business graduate schools for physician executives by Modern Physician

The commission's next visit to the Trinity campus is scheduled for 2011.
