Trinity University’s Latino Exchange Hosts Writers and Performers at “Flor Y Canto”
SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University’s Latino Exchange, a student group that promotes and celebrates the Latino culture, will host “Flor Y Canto: A Celebration of the Written and Spoken Word” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, in Chapman Auditorium. The event is a celebration of literature with ties to Spanish and New World indigenous traditions, and will feature three talented, highly regarded writers and performers. The event is free and open to the public.
The event will include performances by:
Anthony Flores, poet/actor: Flores has performed throughout San Antonio and the United States; he recently represented San Antonio in the 2006 National Poetry Slam as a member of the PuroSlam performance group.
Deborah Parédez, scholar/performer/poet: Parédez, assistant professor of theater at the University of Texas at Austin, is the author of an award-winning poetry collection, This Side of Skin. Her work has also been published in several anthologies and literary magazines. Parédez is a 1993 graduate of Trinity University.
Olga Samples-Davis, writer/motivational speaker/performing artist: Samples-Davis is the award-winning author of A Time to Be Born and Things My Momma Told Me: The Wisdom that Shapes Our Lives. Her work has also appeared in numerous journals and poetry collections.
