Trinity University Appoints Vice President for Student Affairs

Felicia J. Lee

SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University President John R. Brazil has appointed Felicia J. Lee as Vice President for Student Affairs, a member of the president’s executive staff who oversees a range of activities involving students fully engaged in college life. Lee is currently Associate Vice President and Dean of Students at the University of San Francisco. She is scheduled to begin her tenure at Trinity on Aug. 13.

“Dr. Lee brings us the professional experience and background that will provide outstanding leadership to the division of Student Affairs and the University. She is highly energetic and visionary, and we are excited to have her join our diverse community,” said President Brazil.

At the University of San Francisco, Lee is second-in-command for the Division of University Life and is responsible for the satisfaction, retention, and co-curricular success of USF’s 8,000 students. She also has administrative oversight for the Office of Residence Life, the Office of Living / Learning Communities, and the Office of Assistant Dean and Judicial Affairs, among other duties.

She previously served as director of Student Life at Occidental College, where she was instrumental in retaining and supporting a diverse student body, promoting academic and personal development, and providing direction for enriching the quality of student life. Before that, she was coordinator of the Women’s Center at Stanford University and previously was coordinator of the Center for Women and Ethnic Issues at California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.

In her application letter, Dr. Lee wrote, “I consider a truly effective student-centered organization to be one that engages in transformative education – a process that emphasizes integrated student learning outcomes.” She also advocates the need to nurture and promote a student’s sense of individuality while helping students to understand their connection to others within a social, academic, and institutional context.

She holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Policy and Organization from the University of Southern California, master’s degrees from both Stanford University and Colorado State University, and a B.A. in psychology and sociology from the University of California, Irvine.
