AtticRep to Launch Forum Theater Project on Facing San Antonio’s Homeless

SAN ANTONIO – AtticRep, a community theater company housed at Trinity University, will present Forum Theater Project 2008, a theater event on “Facing San Antonio’s Homeless” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, and Friday, March 14, in Trinity’s Attic Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Using performance strategies and theatrical language, the Forum Theater Project will create an original performance that focus on the individual’s sense of belonging to the San Antonio community. Trinity students will collaborate with the AtticRep members in researching homelessness and capturing the daily difficulties faced by the homeless. In particular, this Forum will interrogate how belonging to a specific cultural and ethnic identity determines self and public conceptions of citizenship in San Antonio and in America. The Forum Theater Project aims to stimulate dialogue, and through dialogue: change.

The play will invite the audience to rewrite the action during a discussion session and restaging of the play as part of each evening’s performance. The production is part of Trinity’s Difficult Dialogues program on Culture and Civic Status. Funding for the Difficult Dialogues program is provided by the Ford Foundation.
