Novelist and Essayist Chang-rae Lee to Present a Reading with Commentary at Trinity University
SAN ANTONIO – Chang-rae Lee, esteemed novelist and the director of creative writing at Princeton University, will present “An Evening with Chang-rae Lee: A Reading with Commentary,” at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in Trinity University’s Chapman Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public and is part of the 2007-2008 Stieren Arts Enrichment Series.
The first Korean-American novelist to be published by a major press, Mr. Lee focuses on the experiences of first and second-generation immigrants. His novels, Native Speaker, A Gesture Life, and Aloft, explore the nuances of intergenerational relations, the problems of assimilation, and the relationship of culture and memory to identity.
The New Yorker named Chang-rae Lee one of the 20 best fiction writers under 40 and his work has appeared in The Best American Essays, The New Yorker, The New York Times, and numerous anthologies. He has received many awards including the PEN/Hemingway Award for first fiction, the Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award, the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Award, the Annisfield-Wolf Book Award, and the Asian-American Literary Award.
The Stieren Arts Enrichment Series brings to Trinity’s campus a distinguished array of outstanding leaders in the fields of art, music, drama, communication, literature, art history, and aesthetics. It is made possible through an endowment created by Jane and the late Arthur Stieren of San Antonio.
