SAN ANTONIO – Gregory Currie, professor of philosophy at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, will speak about “The Pleasures of Irony” at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in Trinity University’s Chapman Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public and is part of the University’s 2007-2008 Stieren Arts Enrichment Series.
Professor Currie holds a British Academy Research Fellowship to work on ironic points of view in literature. From 2004-07 he was dean of the faculty of arts at Nottingham.
A prolific author, his books include The Nature of Fiction, Image and Mind, Recreative Minds, and Arts and Minds. His recent papers cover such diverse topics as the narrative and its role in thinking, Victorian photography, empathy and the arts, conceptual art, and pretend play in animals.
The Stieren Arts Enrichment Series brings to Trinity’s campus a distinguished array of outstanding leaders in the fields of art, music, drama, communication, literature, art history, and aesthetics.
