Two Outstanding Alumni to Be Honored at Trinity University
SAN ANTONIO – Two outstanding graduates from Trinity University’s Class of 1979 will be honored Friday, Feb. 6, with a reception and dinner on campus. Melody Boone Meyer, president of Chevron Energy Technology in Houston, will be honored as Trinity’s Distinguished Alumna, while Beverly Watts Davis, senior advisor on substance abuse policy for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in Rockville, Md., will receive the Spirit of Trinity Award.
In addition to her executive position with Chevron, Ms. Meyer serves as a Trinity University Trustee. At Chevron, she has experience in operations and technology and manages the company’s technology services as well as research and development. During her career, she has held operating management assignments in Kazakhstan and Angola and senior positions in Chevron’s North America Upstream organization, including vice president of the Midcontinent business unit headquartered in Houston and vice president of the business unit in New Orleans. She earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering science with an emphasis on mechanical engineering.
Two years ago, Ms. Davis was named senior advisor on substance abuse policy for an agency associated with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She previously was director for the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, working in partnership with a range of government agencies and private sector organizations to prevent the onset of illegal drug, alcohol, and tobacco use by building resilience among young people and promoting protective factors. Prior to that appointment, she was executive director of San Antonio Fighting Back and senior vice president with the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Trinity.
In November, the University community honored the 2008-2009 Outstanding Young Alumna. The recipient was Tess Coody-Anders ’93, partner and chief operating officer at Guerra DeBerry Coody, a full-service marketing and communications firm with offices in San Antonio and Phoenix, Ariz., and a national reputation as a leader in Hispanic marketing.
The Feb. 6 alumni event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Great Hall in the Chapman Center on campus. To make reservations, please contact Trinity’s Office of Alumni Relations at 210-999-8404 by Jan. 23, 2009.
