KRTU 91.7 FM to Host Fundraising Concert Featuring Ramsey Lewis at Trinity University
SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University’s jazz radio station, KRTU 91.7 FM, will present Ramsey Lewis live in concert at 8 p.m. Friday, April 3, in Laurie Auditorium. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the Laurie Auditorium box office, by phone at 210-224-9600, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. All proceeds benefit the station.
To celebrate the concert, KRTU will also host a Ramsey Lewis Lunch Feature on the station from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 30 through April 3. The radio program, hosted by KRTU music director Aaron Prado, will include music from Ramsey Lewis’ career in a historical, social, and musical context.
“KRTU is committed to providing world-class jazz to San Antonio not just on the radio but in performance too,” said station manager Alfredo Cruz, “This is a rare San Antonio appearance by a living jazz legend.” Past KRTU concerts have featured Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Dianne Reeves, Poncho Sanchez, and Branford and Wynton Marsalis.
Mr. Lewis is an American jazz icon, composer, and pianist known for his performance style and diverse career spanning straight ahead jazz, soul jazz, and crossover music. To date, he has recorded more than 80 albums, received five gold records, and earned three Grammy Awards. In 2007, Mr. Lewis received the Jazz Masters Award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The concert is sponsored KRTU 91.7 FM, Time Warner Cable of San Antonio, and the San Antonio Express-News.
Through listener support, KRTU provides 17 hours of jazz programming a day beginning at 5 a.m. on the radio and on the Internet. Beginning at 10 p.m., KRTU offers a mix of new and independent music.
