Trinity University to Host Poetry Reading in
Honor of Chicana Writer
SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University’s Mexico, the Americas, and Spain (MAS) program will host a poetry reading in honor of Chicana writer Gloria E. Anzaldúa at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, in Northrup Hall Room 040. The poetry reading, part of El Mundo Zurdo, the first international conference on the life and work of Dr. Anzaldúa, is free and open to the public.
Dr. Anzaldúa
was the author of Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza,
considered a groundbreaking work on living in several different and
conflicting cultural worlds at the same time. She died on May 15, 2004 and
the conference commemorates the fifth anniversary of her passing. The event will feature:
El Mundo Zurdo was organized by The Society for the Study of Gloria Anzaldúa to promote the literary and cultural legacy of the late Chicana lesbian feminist.
The international conference is sponsored by the University of Texas at San Antonio; The University of Texas, Pan American; the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center; and Trinity University.
