Trinity University’s Capital Campaign Totals $205.9 Million
SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University has announced that Dream. Inspire. Achieve. The Campaign for Trinity University has concluded with a final fund raising total of $205,953,000. The final total, which exceeds the comprehensive campaign’s initial goal by nearly $6 million, was made public Thursday, Sept. 24, during the President’s Dinner, a gala honoring major benefactors of the University and celebrating the successful conclusion of the Campaign, the largest campaign from private sources in the South Texas region.
“The Campaign helps define Trinity’s possibilities and creates conditions that will allow it to accelerate its goal of providing the quality of educational experience that will ensure our graduates are ready to live successful lives, be contributing citizens of great integrity and character, equipped to lead, and poised to shape the future,” said Trinity president John R. Brazil.
About 350 people, including more than 65 students, attended the dinner at the Marriott Rivercenter in downtown San Antonio. Guests were greeted by student athletes in sports uniforms along with fraternity and sorority members wearing Greek jerseys, as well as student representatives from all academic disciplines. Each guest received a photo frame with a picture of two Trinity landmarks, the Miller Fountain at the center of campus and the Murchison Tower. The frame also included a thank-you message and signature of President Brazil. Entertainment was provided by the Acabellas, an all female student a cappella singing group. Campaign news was shared by Tim Hixon ’64, chairman of the Trinity Board of Trustees, and by James F. Dicke II ’68, also a Trinity Trustee.
Walter Huntley ’71, ’73, another Trustee, delivered a champagne toast before the screening of a video showcasing the Class of 2013 as they moved into their residence halls in August, attended the first year convocation, and climbed the Murchison Tower. “To successful endings, new beginnings, and to John and Janice Brazil, thank you and best wishes. And, of course to Trinity University.” Huntley’s toast to the Brazils acknowledged the University’s appreciation for their 10 years of service. Earlier this year Dr. Brazil announced he would retire from the Trinity presidency in January 2010.
The Campaign for Trinity University was launched Sept. 22, 2005 as the most ambitious and challenging advancement initiative in Trinity’s history. With a goal of $200 million, the campaign is assisting Trinity in its quest to recruit the best and brightest students, regardless of their financial circumstances. In addition to scholarships, the Campaign supports innovative new academic programs that capitalize on Trinity’s strengths and meets the demands of the global society in which students must thrive.
Trinity University is a nationally recognized liberal arts and sciences institution noted for its exceptional faculty and commitment to the comprehensive preparation of its talented student body. It is a learning community that has charted its course with a steadfast commitment to excellence since it was founded in 1869.
