Trinity Music Department to Hold Rosalind Phillips Vocal Competition
SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity University music department will host the 3rd annual Rosalind Phillips Vocal Excellence Award Recital Competition at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, in the Ruth Taylor Recital Hall. The event will feature five Trinity students competing for a grand prize of $800 and a performance with the Trinity Symphony Orchestra. The competition is free and open to the public.
Trinity alumna Amy Becker ’89 established the award to honor Rosalind Phillips, an emerita voice professor at Trinity. Professor Phillips won a four-year Fellowship to the Juilliard Graduate School and attended the Cincinnati Conservatory. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music from the Arthur Jordan Conservatory. She has sung in France and was an acclaimed performer with a background as a concert performer, soloist with symphony orchestras, and in light opera.
This year the finalists in the competition are:
Lauren Browning, soprano, a senior majoring in both music and English major with a minor in creative writing.
Cristina Castro, soprano, a junior vocal performance major.
David Short, tenor, is a senior majoring in music education with a choral emphasis.
Elizabeth Snelling, soprano, a senior majoring in music education with a choral emphasis.
Elizabeth Stevenson, soprano, a senior majoring in marketing and a minor in music.
