Foundation Establishes Trinity University Kindness Fund

SAN ANTONIO – A foundation with ties to Daniel Lubetzky ’90, a former Outstanding Young Alumnus at Trinity University and founder of PeaceWorks, has established an endowment that will fund an annual $5,000 award to a Trinity student who embodies and demonstrates the virtue of kindness as well as a high level of scholarship.

The award honors Mr. Lubetzky’s late father, Roman M. Lubetzky. The son, who serves as vice president of the Lubetzky Foundation, said the foundation created the award to preserve and further the philosophy he shares with his late father with regard to encouraging kindness and financially assisting qualified students.

Named for his parents, the Roman and Sonia Lubetzky Foundation provided a $100,000 gift to Trinity to establish the Roman M. Lubetzky Fund for Kindness. Recipients of the kindness award will be selected by a committee composed of students, faculty, and staff along with Sonia Lubetzky, the alumnus’ mother and widow of Roman Lubetzky. The first recipient will be announced in the spring of 2011 at the annual spring Honors Convocation on campus.

Mr. Lubetzky’s New York-based firm, founded in 1994, is an international food company that produces items using ingredients from nations on opposing sides of political conflicts. For example, PeaceWorks sells spices made through cooperative agreements with Christians, Buddhists, and Muslims in a woman-owned factory in Indonesia. The company’s mission is to shatter cultural stereotypes while sharing business goals.
