Trinity to Honor 17 San Antonio Area Teachers

March 13, 2000  -  Seventeen public school teachers have been named Distinguished Educators by their school districts and are nominees for the 2000 Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching.  The seventeen Distinguished Educators will be honored at a reception Tuesday, March 21, at 4 p.m. in the Chapman Center Great Hall on Trinity University's campus.

Two of the 17 Distinguished Educators will be selected by a blue-ribbon committee to receive the Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching.  The 2000 Trinity Prize recipients will be announced during the University's annual H.E.B. Grocery Co. Kappa Delta Pi Lecture and Awards Ceremony, Friday, April 14.  The honors program begins at 4 p.m. with a lecture by Andy Baumgartner, the 1999 National Teacher of the Year.  The program will be held in Trinity's Margarite B. Parker Chapel.  A reception, sponsored by the San Antonio Express-News, will follow.

The prize, initiated by Trinity's education department in 1981, recognizes truly outstanding public school teachers and honors teaching as a profession.  The University will provide $2,000 for the Trinity Prize winners and gifts for the 17 San Antonio area Distinguished Educators.
