GROUP TO PERFORM AT TRINITY
|
|
Jan. 22, 2001 The Aquila Theatre Company, one of the nation’s leading producers of touring classical theatre, will come to Trinity University to perform two European masterworks. The company will present Edmund Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, and Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18. Both productions will be staged in the Jane and Arthur Stieren Theater and are free and open to the public; however, reservations should be made by calling the Stieren Theater box office at (210) 999-8515. Under the leadership of artistic director Peter Meineck and associate director Robert Richmond, Aquila presents fresh and inventive productions of classical drama designed to breathe life into classic texts. Founded in 1990 by Meineck, the company has toured Europe, Canada, and the United States, winning international critical acclaim for innovative and dynamic productions. Set in 17th Century France, Cyrano de Bergerac is a swashbuckling romantic adventure that tells a beautifully funny, poignant, and often heart-wrenching love story. Much Ado About Nothing, one of Shakespeare’s more mature romantic comedies, is an exuberant, philosophical, and festive comedy that excels in combative wit, melodrama, and potential tragedy. Set in Sicily, the play has a wonderfully intricate plot flush with surprising twists. The performances by the Aquila Theatre Company are part of Trinity's Stieren Arts Enrichment Series. For more information, call (210) 999-8515. |
