June 2, 2003 – The business administration department at Trinity University has received notice of reaffirmation of accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB.) Initially accredited for its undergraduate programs in 1996, the University’s master’s in accounting program that launched in 1997 is now accredited under the new AACSB designation.

Business administration is the largest department at Trinity, with more than 400 majors at the undergraduate level and an average of 20 students working toward master’s degrees in accounting, says Richard M. Burr, professor and chair of the department. Business administration graduates are employed by national companies or admitted to prestigious graduate programs, including Harvard, Stanford, and Northwestern, Professor Burr says.

“Reaffirmation of accreditation means that our curriculum meets the standards that AACSB sets up,” Professor Burr says. AACSB is considered the premier accrediting agency for colleges and universities that offer bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs in business administration and accounting. Only about a third of all business schools in the United States are accredited by the agency.

For the 2003-04 academic year, Trinity’s business administration department will have 19 full-time faculty members. All have doctoral degrees. The department offers both B.A. and B.S. degrees with concentrations in accounting, finance, international business management, and marketing.

Because of its AACSB accreditation, the department is now able to form a Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society. This spring, the chapter awarded its first scholarship to Alexis Ferraro of Baton Rouge, La., who is majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing and a minor in Spanish. She is a candidate for graduation in May 2004.

Trinity University is a nationally recognized liberal arts and sciences institution noted for its exceptional faculty and commitment to the comprehensive preparation of its talented student body. It is a learning community that has charted its course with a steadfast commitment to excellence since it was founded in 1869.
