A Plateful of News with a Side Dish of Opinion: KRTU-FM 91.7 Airs Café Politico

August 2, 2002  –  KRTU-FM 91.7, Trinity University’s radio station, is now serving up an original current affairs program featuring interviews with state and local leaders.  Café Politico airs every Thursday and Friday afternoon from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is hosted by communication professor Harry Haines and Trinity alum William Consuegra.

Politicians, business, and civic leaders, as well as Trinity faculty, are invited to be guests on the program.  The half hour is used to discuss pressing issues of the day.  In the brief time the program has been on the air, Café Politico has played host to San Antonio city councilman Julian Castro, state senator Leticia Van de Putte, and local businessman Red McCombs.

Café Politico is San Antonio’s only FM political show,” says Mr. Consuegra.  “We see it as a program where people can come on and talk about important issues without having to resort only to sound bites.  It’s a show where San Antonio listeners can find depth to the news they are concerned about. We hope to develop the show into a leader in the San Antonio political scene.”

Café Politico was created by Professor Haines, Mr. Consuegra, and Trinity students Jayme Rutledge and Jordan Williams.

KRTU-FM is a non-commercial college radio station that broadcasts over the greater San Antonio area.  The music format includes classical music, jazz seven nights a week, and indie rock late night and weekend afternoons.
