Trinity University Speech And Drama Department
To Present Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle

October 20, 2000 - Trinity's department of Speech and Drama will present Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle as its second main stage production of the 2000-2001 season.  The Caucasian Chalk Circle will be performed in the Jane and Arthur Stieren Theater on November 10 and 11 at 8 p.m., November 12 at 2:30 p.m., and November 15-18 at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $6 for regular admission; $5 for faculty, staff, and senior citizens; $4 for students; and $3 for groups of ten or more.

Brecht's musical comedy follows the story of two women and the child they both call their own.  The play begins with a governor and his family fleeing a bloody coup leaving behind their infant son.  A kitchen servant rescues the child from certain death and raises him as her own in a mountain village.  When the governor's family is restored to power, the governor's widow wants her son back and it is up to a corrupt and cowardly judge to determine who is the child's true mother.

The Caucasian Chalk Circle will feature original music by Trinity senior Brian Nelson.  In addition to composing the music for this production, Mr. Nelson is also the conductor and one of five accompanists who will be featured on stage alongside the actors.  Stacey Connelly, associate professor of Speech and Drama, is directing the cast of 22 students and two children.
