RELIGION PROFESSOR TO SPEAK ON ARABS IN ISRAEL DURING FOOD FOR THOUGHT LUNCHEON

Dec. 10, 2001 – Edward Curtis, assistant professor of religion, will speak on the challenges faced by Arabs living in Israel as part of Trinity’s Food For Thought luncheon lecture series. Professor Curtis will give his presentation at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 9, in the Coates Center Fiesta Room.  Tickets for the luncheon are $14 and reservations should be made three days prior to the event by calling the Alumni Relations Office at (210) 999-8404.

As an undergraduate student in 1992, during the first Palestinian uprising, Professor Curtis temporarily moved in with an Israeli Muslim family living in a village south of Jerusalem.  Drawing on his personal experiences, as well as on historical and sociological observations, Professor Curtis intends to examine issues concerning ethnic discrimination and cross cultural exchanges.  He believes these issues are relevant not only to the current crisis in Israel but also to the human condition as a whole.

The Food For Thought luncheon lecture series is sponsored by the San Antonio chapter of the Trinity University Alumni Association.
