| SOUTH AFRICAN RELGIOUS LEADER TO SPEAK ON THE ROLE OF THE INTERFAITH MOVEMENT AT THE END OF APARTHEID |

Sept. 14, 2001 – The Rev. Dr. G.J.A. Lubbe, professor of religious studies at the University of South Africa, will discuss how the interfaith movement in South Africa created an inter-religious dialogue while also helping to dismantle apartheid. His presentation, titled “Liberating Christians in South Africa,” will begin at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, in Chapman Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public. Dr. Lubbe has been called a "spiritual father" of the interfaith movement. He is a former president of the South African chapter of the World Conference on Religion and Peace. Dr. Lubbe currently serves as an adviser to the South African Minster of Education regarding religious education in South African schools.
