| FORMER RUSSIAN LEADER GORBACHEV CANCELS TRINITY UNIVERSITY LECTURE |
|
April 12, 2002 – Citing turmoil within the political party of his native country, former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev has canceled the April 17 lecture at Trinity University that had been scheduled as part of the 2002 Distinguished Lecture Series. Mr. Gorbachev’s lecture at Trinity will not be rescheduled, and no other speaker will take his place at the April 17 engagement. Mr. Gorbachev’s spokesman told Trinity University officials that his political party in Russia is undergoing a serious challenge and that he needs to be there to help and support the party. Because of the political tension, Mr. Gorbachev canceled his entire United States tour that had been scheduled for next week.
