Receive Prestigious Award

May 17, 2000  - Justin Mynar, a rising junior at Trinity University, has been named a Beckman Scholar.  Trinity University was one of 18 institutions nationwide, and the only one from Texas, selected to receive Beckman Scholars Program Awards for 2000-2001.  The award program is a prestigious competition in which select institutions are invited to apply.  It is funded by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation and will provide Mynar $17,600 over fifteen months (June 1, 2000 to August 31, 2001) for chemistry research.

Mynar is majoring in chemistry.  His activities on campus include playing football for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship team, serving as vice president of the chemistry club, and treasurer for his fraternity.  He graduated from Midway High School.

Jane Healy, a rising junior at Trinity University, has also been named a Beckman Scholar.  The award program will provide Healy with $17,600 over fifteen months (June 1, 2000 to August 31, 2001) for biology research.  Healy was one of 12 students nationwide to receive an American Physiological Society summer research fellowship.  She conducts her research in the lab of Larry Espey, professor of biology and one of the world's leading experts in the field of ovulation.

Healy is majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology and minoring in philosophy.  She is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, International English Honor Society, and the International Society of Collegiate Scholars.  She graduated from Antonian College Preparatory High School.
