| Trinity Honor Society Receives National Award |
| September 28, 1999 - Trinity University's chapter of Alpha Lamba Delta, a national academic honor society for freshmen, has been named to The Order of the Torch. Only five out of 272 chapters nationwide received this honor. Membership in The Order of the Torch is awarded to Alpha Lamba Delta chapters that have demonstrated excellence in the areas of programming, internal communication and campus visibility.
Dr. Margaret Berry, former member of the National Council of Alpha Lamba Delta and retired student affairs administrator, UT Austin, presented the award at a ceremony on September 22, 1999. According to Berry, Trinity's chapter was selected because members did an outstanding job serving their campus and their community. Only 25 chapters have received this award in the past decade. Some of the activities conducted by Trinity's chapter include a chapter website, taking underprivileged children from Hawthorne Elementary fishing, offering tutoring prior to mid-term exams, helping Habitat for Humanity, holding study breaks during exams, and a mixer for incoming freshmen. Trinity University, founded in 1869, is a highly-selective, professionally-oriented liberal arts and sciences institution. This residential, primarily undergraduate university is noted for its superb facilities and undergraduate research opportunities. Through its academic and co-curricular programs, Trinity seeks to develop leaders with high moral and ethical standards. It is a learning community that has charted its course with a steadfast commitment to excellence for more than 130 years. |
