Trinity Receives Grant for New International Mentoring Program |
| May 28, 2003 – An international educational and exchange organization has awarded Trinity University a grant to develop a support program for international college students. The grant, approved by NAFSA: Association of International Educators, will help Trinity’s international programs office create the International Student Mentor and Host Family Program. The goal of the program will be to match first-year international students with other students on campus who share similar backgrounds. Additionally, the program would help bring together international students with families from the Trinity community. According to William Consuegra, international student advisor, international students usually find their first year on campus difficult in part because of specific cultural adaptation issues. “The new program will ease some of this difficulty by creating a mentor system with international students from similar backgrounds who have spent more time at Trinity,” added Mr. Consuegra. New international students will also get a taste of American life outside of the confines of campus by developing relationships with host families that volunteer to be part of the program. NAFSA, founded in 1948 as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers, is the leading association in the field of international education and exchange. Trinity University is a nationally recognized liberal arts and sciences institution noted for its exceptional faculty and commitment to the comprehensive preparation of its talented student body. It is a learning community that has charted its course with a steadfast commitment to excellence since it was founded in 1869. |
