| Trinity University History Professor Recognized with Mentoring Award |
| January 18, 2000 - Gary Kates, professor of history and Acting Dean of the Division of Humanities and Arts, has been honored with the eighth annual Nancy Lyman Roelker Mentorship Award. This year's award, given by the American Historical Association (AHA), recognizes an undergraduate teacher's commitment to mentoring with an emphasis on their academic and individual benefit to students. Kates was nominated for the honor by his students and academic peers.
The AHA is a nonprofit membership organization that serves and unites historians in both the research and education fields. With 15,000 members, it is the largest historical society in the United States. Trinity University, founded in 1869, is a highly-selective, professionally-oriented liberal arts and sciences institution. This residential, primarily undergraduate university is noted for its superb facilities and undergraduate research opportunities. Through its academic and co-curricular programs, Trinity seeks to develop leaders with high moral and ethical standards.
