Help San Antonio Swing: KRTU FM 91.7 to Hold Annual Fund Drive

Feb. 19, 2003  KRTU FM 91.7, the only radio station in San Antonio to offer jazz programming seven days a week, will hold is annual fund drive beginning on Friday, Feb. 21.  Last year, the listener supported station raised $23 thousand to help pay for the costs of maintaining on-air operations.  This year, KRTU-FM will try to more than double that amount by setting a goal of $50 thousand.  As an added bonus for this year’s fund drive, listeners who donate at the “supreme membership” level will receive tickets to “An Evening with Dave Brubeck,” a benefit concert to be held for KRTU-FM on April 1 at Laurie Auditorium.

KRTU-FM is a non-profit, primarily student-operated radio station that does not receive revenue from commercial advertising.  Instead, the bulk of the station’s expenses are funded by its listeners.  The goals of this year’s fund drive are to support the continuation of the KRTU-FM’s Morning Jazz program, to provide summer intern positions for students interested in pursuing a career in radio, to pay for the remodeling of the KRTU-FM broadcast booth, and to fund  a new production studio.

Along with its jazz programming, KRTU-FM also broadcasts alternative music late night and has a live music show called “Live From Studio A.” The fund drive will continue until March 2.  Friends of the radio station can make a pledge by calling (210) 999-8313 or by becoming a member of KRTU-FM by going online at www.krtu.org.
