KRTU-FM 91.7 National Finalist In Silver Microphone Awards

July 26, 2002 KRTU-FM 91.7, the radio station of Trinity University, has been named a national finalist in the Silver Microphone Awards for the year 2002.  The competition is designed to select the best local and regional radio commercials, audio programs, and Web sites created by advertising agencies, production companies, and radio stations in the United States.  KRTU-FM was awarded the honor in the category of best radio station Web site, for www.krtu.org.

The Silver Microphone Award competition was open to more than 40,000 advertising agencies, production studios, and radio stations in the United States.  Entries in 38 categories were judged for creativity, production quality, copywriting, talent, and overall effectiveness.

“A panel of judges, representing all aspects of the broadcast and advertising industry, rated each entry.  Four finalists from each category entered a second round of judging to determine the national winner in each category,” said Jack W. Smith, chairman of the Silver Microphone Awards. “The national winners and the national finalists were among the best radio commercials, audio programs, and web sites produced within the United States in the last year.”

“We’re very honored to receive this award,” said Ben Donnelly, operations manager for KRTU-FM. “We’ve done a lot of work to make the Web site an important part of the station.  For example, people can click hyperlinks on our homepage to hear classical music or jazz anytime they want.”

KRTU-FM is a non-commercial college radio station that broadcasts over the greater San Antonio area.  The music format includes classical music, jazz seven nights a week, and indie rock late night and weekend afternoons.
