KRTU-FM 91.7 Adds More Indie Rock To The Weekends |
|
“The indie rock format, what some people might call alternative music, is made of up groups that mainstream radio often ignore,” says Ben Donnelly, KRTU-FM operations manager. “When the groups do get airtime on other stations, it’s usually six months after we have been playing their music.” Donnelly says the reason for adding more indie rock to the weekends was simple. People want to hear it. During the station’s recent fund drive, listeners said they appreciated hearing indie rock on our station. According to Donnelly, “We wanted to give them more of what they liked to hear.” Currently, KRTU-FM broadcasts classical music weekday mornings and afternoons, jazz every night of the week, and indie rock late night and early morning. KRTU-FM also airs live music from local bands during the school year. For listeners who can’t get enough jazz or indie rock during the day, KRTU-FM offers streaming audio on their web site at www.krtu.org. |
