TRINITY MUSIC DEPARTMENT PRESENTS MARCH EVENTS |

SAN ANTONIO The Trinity University music department will present the following events in March: March 1 Organ recital. Daniel Roth, organist for the St. Sulpice Church in Paris will perform as part of the Parker Chapel Recital Series. Dr. Roths program will include Prelude and Fugue in C Minor by Mendelssohn, Interlude Symphonique from Rédemption by Frank, Choral from Symphonie Romane by Saint-Saëns, and Scherzo by Duruflé. Margarite B. Parker Chapel, 8 p.m. Admission is free. March 3 Spring Choral Concert. The concert will feature the Trinity Chamber Singers and the Trinity Choir. The Chamber Singers will perform Mass for Five Voices by Byrd, Ecco Mormorar Londe by Monteverdi, and Nonsense Three Settings of Limericks by Petrassi. The Choir will perform Rejoice in the Lamb by Britten as well as two selections in memoriam of the victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy. The Choir will perform by candlelight and, following the piece, members of the audience will also be given candles. Margarite B. Parker Chapel, 2 p.m. Admission is free. March 7 Trinity Symphony Orchestra. The Orchestra will
perform music from Aaron Copelands score for the 1940 film Our
Town, incidental music by Gabriel Faure for the play Pelleas
et Melisande, selections from the opera Carmen by Bizet.
Ruth Taylor Concert Hall, March 12 SOLI Chamber Ensemble. The title for the concert is Custom Built and included in the program will be the premiere of Nine Episodes for Four Players, a new work by Ned Rorem. The work was co-commissioned by the SOLI Chamber Ensemble. Also included in the program will be Dante Dances by Dan Welcher and Piano Trio for Violin, Cello, and Piano by David Diamond. Ruth Taylor Concert Hall, 8 p.m. Tickets for this performance are $10 with reduced rates available to students. March 16 & 17 Alamo City Mens Chorale concert. The chorus celebrates its 15th anniversary with a concert titled Celebrate in Song. Rising Houston Opera singer Dawn Padula will join the chorus for Alto Rhapsodie by Brahms, Ständchen by Schubert, as well as several other classical and popular solo selections. The men of the chorus will perform German art songs and, in honor of St. Patricks Day, familiar Irish folk songs. They will also offer a few drinking songs as well. Ruth Taylor Concert Hall, Saturday, March 16, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 17, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at On Main Cards and Gifts or by calling 495-7464.
