| TRINITY UNIVERSITY REVAMPS HEALTH CARE ADMINISTRATION EXECUTIVE PROGRAM |
|
May 21, 2001 Mid-career health professionals seeking a master's degree in health care administration from Trinity University will be able to complete their course-work in two years instead of three under changes that will take effect in fall 2001. The new schedule of study applies to the Executive Program sought by mid-career professionals seeking advancement. Such students include, but are not limited to, clinic and hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, physical therapists, health care financial managers, pharmaceutical sales representatives, and attorneys or certified public accountants with expertise in the health care industry. Although the timetable for obtaining a Master of Science in Health Care Administration was shortened from three years to two, the number of required credit hours has remained at 42 and is accomplished through a part-time, distance-learning curriculum. Trinity's department of health care administration has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration continuously since 1969. We accept people from all undergraduate backgrounds, and we do have executives from all over the nation, including Alaska, the East Coast, and northern states, says Mary Stefl, chair of the health care administration department. They come from everywhere. Advantages of the program are small classes most have no more than 20 students and the frequent interaction among faculty, students, and health care executives, Professor Stefl says. As a result, the department maintains a strong alumni and job network. The department also offers an On-Campus master's degree program for students enrolling directly from undergraduate study. It calls for 51 credit hours and includes a 12-month administrative residency requirement. Both programs are equivalent in quality, rigor, and curricular content. For more information on either the Executive Program or the On-Campus Program, contact Professor Stefl at 210-999-8107 or e-mail mstefl@trinity.edu or visit the department online at www.trinity.edu/departments/healthcare. |
