TRINITY UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTS NEW OFFICERS

July 24, 2001 – Robert S. McClane, founder of McClane Partners, LLC, a consulting and investment services company, has been elected chairman of the Trinity University Board of Trustees. Additional officers elected to the Board include Vice Chairwoman Lissa Walls Vahldiek ’80, vice president and chief operating officer of Southern Newspapers Inc. of Houston; Treasurer Neil Chur ’66 and ’70, chief executive officer of Springwood Management Corporation, East Aurora, New York, and Secretary George C. (Tim) Hixon ’64, chairman and vice president of Hixon Properties, Inc., San Antonio.

A community leader in San Antonio, Mr. McClane has been actively involved with Trinity as a member of the Board since 1989. A native of Kenedy, Texas, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Trinity in 1961 and received the University’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1987. He assumed the chairmanship May 6, 2001.

Mr. McClane provides services to business through his privately owned consulting and investment firm, McClane Partners, LLC.  Prior to starting his own business, he spent 33 years with Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc., and was president for 12 years.

Mr. McClane was a founder of Leadership San Antonio, a continuing program of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce dedicated to bringing together proven leaders from across diverse ethnic, cultural, and interest backgrounds to broaden total community understanding.  He served as chairman of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce in 1996 and chaired the Economic Development Foundation in 1987-89.  Most recently, he served as chairman of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Free Trade Alliance-San Antonio, a coalition of city government, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, and the Economic Development Foundation.

He serves on the board of publicly traded Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc. (NYSE) and Prodigy Communications Corporation (NASDAQ) as well as several privately held corporations.  He is also vice chairman of Tobin International, Inc. and serves as a trustee of the Southwest Research Institute.

Mr. McClane succeeds James F. Dicke II ’68, president of Crown Equipment Corporation, New Bremen, Ohio, who served a four-year term.

Trinity University, founded in 1869, is a highly selective, professionally oriented liberal arts and sciences institution.  This residential, primarily undergraduate coeducational university is noted for its superb facilities and undergraduate research opportunities.
