Trinity Music Department Presents October Events

Sept. 23, 2002 – The Trinity University music department will present the following events in October:

October 4 – Faculty recital by David Heller, organ.  Professor Heller will perform a recital featuring Choral No. 3 in A Minor by Franck, Toccata and Fugue in F Major by Bach, and Dieu est Simple by Messiaen. The program will also include Prelude and Fugue on the Name of Alain by Marcel Duruflé, recognizing the 100th anniversary of Durufle’s birth, and the first complete performance of a new work, Covenants, by Austin Composer Jeffrey Nytch.  Margarite B. Parker Chapel, 8 p.m. Admission is free.

October 6 – Concert by the Composer Alliance of San Antonio (CASA).  The concert will feature premiere performances of works by CASA members including "Five Musings from the Past" for soprano and piano by Elisenda Fabregas, a brass quintet by Ken Metz, and a woodwind quintet by William Ross.  The concert will also include earlier works by San Antonio composers David Heuser, Timothy Kramer, and Misook Kim.  Performers on the concert include the Olmos Ensemble, flutist Jean Robinson, soprano Rachel Rosales, and others. Ruth Taylor Concert Hall, 4 p.m. Admission is free. 

October 9 – Faculty Recital by Jan Roller, trumpet. The recital will also feature Professor Carolyn True on piano. Ruth Taylor Concert Hall, 8 p.m. Admission is free.

October 19 – Stieren Arts Enrichment Series presentation, “Franz Schubert, Linden Trees, and German National Identity: A Song as Subject of History.” Professor Reinhold Brinkmann from Harvard University will speak on Winterreise, a song cycle by Schubert in honor of the 175th anniversary of the work.  Ruth Taylor Concert Hall, 7 p.m.  Admission is free.

October 20 – Stieren Arts Enrichment Series concert.  The concert will feature a performance of the entire Winterreise song cycle by Franz Schubert, in honor of its 175th anniversary. Winterreise will be performed by Julianne Baird, soprano, and Andrew Willis, fortepiano. Ruth Taylor Concert Hall, 3 p.m. Admission is free. 

October 29 – SOLI Chamber Ensemble, 8 p.m. in the Ruth Taylor Concert Hall.  Admission is $10.
