Trinity Director Nationally Recognized for Commitment

Aug. 4, 2003 – Pete Neville, Trinity University’s director of student activities and University Center, was honored with the Robert D. Bradshaw Small Colleges Student Advocate Award during the summer meeting of the Region III National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).

The Robert D. Bradshaw Student Advocate Award acknowledges a professional member of NASPA who demonstrates outstanding commitment to the mission and goals of small colleges, strong student advocacy and interaction with individual students and small groups, and performance that exceeds the call of duty while serving multiple roles within the campus community.

“Mr. Neville is a dedicated professional and an integral part of Trinity’s student life program,” said Gage Paine, Trinity’s vice president for student affairs. Widely acknowledged on the Trinity campus as the person who knows how to make the University work for students and staff alike, Dr. Paine added, “he works to find ways to say ‘yes’ to the wildest student scheme and when he can’t, he takes the time to explain why as carefully as possible.”

A staff member since 1983, Mr. Neville is the student activities and University Center director and he serves on many committees focused on enhancing the Trinity experience through learning and community.  In addition, he manages the University’s Family Weekend program and Parents’ Orientation.  Most recently, he was a member of a special task force on the Quality of Student Life, a one-year study of the students’ Trinity experience. From that study, he worked to redevelop the Tigers’ Den, a campus pub which opened in April 2003.

From the Region III NASPA members, 35 student affairs professionals were nominated for the Robert D. Bradshaw award and five other awards were presented at the conference.  Region III includes colleges and universities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Bermuda, Bulgaria, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.

Trinity University is a nationally recognized liberal arts and sciences institution noted for its exceptional faculty and commitment to the comprehensive preparation of its talented student body.  It is a learning community that has chartered its course with a steadfast commitment to excellence since it was founded in 1869.
