Ms. Groom, who is majoring in sociology with a minor in urban studies, will undergo an intensive, seven-week academic and internship program for college students engaged in tutoring, mentoring, and related service programs on campus and who are interested in exploring careers in the nonprofit sector.

A graduate of Klein High School, Ms. Groom says she would like to pursue a career working with at-risk youth or the homeless population. “I feel the experience and opportunities provided at the Institute will help me gain the skills necessary to initiate positive social change,” she says. She is a candidate for graduation in May 2004.

The Institute is a partnership of the Fund for American Studies and the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

Trinity University is a nationally recognized liberal arts and sciences institution noted for its exceptional faculty and commitment to the comprehensive preparation of its talented student body. It is a learning community that has charted its course with a steadfast commitment to excellence since it was founded in 1869.
