| Houston Student Wins Service Award |
| March 23, 2000 - Maulik Purohit of Houston, Texas will be presented with the Trinity University Alumni Association award for service to the university. The award is given annually to the student who demonstrates outstanding service commitments to the university community. Purohit will receive his award and a $250 cash prize during the University's awards convocation on Saturday, April 1.
Purohit has been active in Alpha Phi Omega, the Trinity University Voluntary Action Center, Chemistry Club, Hindu Student Council, and Blue Key, Mortar Board and Golden Key national honor societies. This year he serves as co-chair of the Ambassadors. In that role he helped train student callers during the University's annual Phonathon which raised over $326,000 for scholarships and financial aid. Purohit has also worked as a student athletic trainer, professor's assistant, tour guide and SpringFest chair. He was recently selected to Who's Who. A senior biology major, Purohit will attend medical school in the fall. He is the son of Prafull and Smita Purohit and attended Alief Hasting Senior High. Members of Trinity's student body, faculty and staff nominate students for the service award. A panel of the National Alumni Board interviews top candidates for final selection. Trinity University, founded in 1869, is a highly selective, professionally-oriented liberal arts and sciences institution.
