Middle East Specialist to Discuss the Rebuilding of Iraq

Sept. 22, 2003 — Dr. W. Andrew Terrill, research professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute, will discuss “Reconstituting Iraq,” at Trinity University on Monday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m.  His lecture will take place in the Waxahachie Room at Coates University Center.  The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Terrill joined the Strategic Studies Institute (SSI) in October 2001 and is a Middle East specialist.  The SSI is the U.S. Army’s think tank for the analysis of national security policy and military strategy.  Prior to his appointment, Dr. Terrill served as a senior international security analyst for the International Assessments Division of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.  He is a U.S. Army Reserve lieutenant colonel and a Foreign Area Officer for the Middle East.  Since 1994, he has participated in the Middle Eastern Arms Control and Regional Security Track 2 talks, which are part of the Middle East peace process. 

Recent publications by Dr. Terrill include “Nationalism, Sectarianism, and the Future of the U.S. Presence in Post-Saddam Iraq,” and “Strategic Effects of the Conflict with Iraq: The Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey.”
