Acclaimed Poet, Novelist Marge Piercy to Speak at Trinity University

Photo of Poet Marge PiercyFeb. 28, 2003  – Marge Piercy, an internationally celebrated writer of 15 novels and 15 volumes of poetry, will give a presentation at Trinity as part of the University’s Stieren Arts Enrichment Series.  The event, titled “An Evening with Marge Piercy: A Reading with Commentary,” will begin at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 24, in Trinity’s Stieren Theater. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Ms. Piercy’s novels include He, She, and It; Summer People; and Gone to Soldiers. She has also written Sleeping with Cats, a powerful memoir of her literary and socio-political life. Her recent volumes of poetry include Mars and Her Children, What are Girls Made Of, and The Art of Blessing the Day: Poems with a Jewish Theme.

Among the major awards she has received are the Arthur C. Clark Award for Science Fiction, the Carolyn Kizer Poetry Prize, and the Paterson Prize.  Recently Ms. Piercy was interviewed by journalist Bill Moyers for a PBS special devoted to her career.
