Trinity University Names Kansas City Business Executive as New Trustee


Photo of New Trustee SunderlandMarch 26, 2003 – Charles T. Sunderland, chairman of the board of Ash Grove Cement Co. in Overland Park, Kan., has been elected to the Board of Trustees at Trinity University.

A 1978 graduate of Trinity University, Mr. Sunderland received a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in business. He has been with Ash Grove, the fourth largest cement manufacturer in the United States, since 1980. Prior to assuming the chairmanship of the company, he served as vice president of administration, vice president of corporate development, and secretary and risk manager.

Mr. Sunderland also is a trustee for The Sunderland Foundation, the University of Kansas Hospital Authority, the Johnson County Community College Foundation, and the Real Estate Charitable Foundation of Greater Kansas City. Previously, he was a trustee for the Barstow School in Kansas City, Mo., from which he graduated in 1974; Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan.; and the Kansas City Art Institute.

He and his wife, Laurie, are the parents of three children.
