TRINITY UNIVERSITY RANKED NO. 1 FOR TENTH STRAIGHT YEAR IN U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT’S “AMERICA’S BEST COLLEGES”

September 7, 2001 – For the tenth consecutive year U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” guide has ranked Trinity University No.1 among colleges and universities that offer a full range of undergraduate and master’s level programs in the Western part of United States. Trinity also topped the magazine’s “Great Schools at Great Prices” list as the best value in the West, a ranking the University has received for the fourth consecutive year.

The University’s engineering science program also received recognition in the survey.  Trinity’s program was ranked 20th in the nation among the best programs whose highest degree is a bachelor’s or master’s.

“It is very gratifying that Trinity has been recognized so often and so widely as one of this country’s premiere universities.  We work hard to provide our students with the richest possible learning environment and to challenge them to develop to its fullest their every potential,” said Trinity President John R. Brazil.  “It is also gratifying to know that Trinity’s success continues to bring such favorable attention to the San Antonio community.”

U.S. News bases its rankings on academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving.

Trinity had an overall score of 100 in the quality ranking. The University received the highest marks for academic reputation and had the second highest graduation rate.

The value rankings relate the cost of attending a college or university to its quality. “Trinity University is committed to providing the finest undergraduate education possible to talented students regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds,” said President Brazil.

Trinity annually enrolls approximately 2,500 students, 14 percent from the San Antonio area and the remainder from every region of the United States and from around the world.
