Trinity Students to Stage Benefit Production of “The Vagina Monologues” |
| April 15, 2003 – As part of a celebration
of women’s history, a group of Trinity University students will perform
“The Vagina Monologues: Vaginas with a Twist” as a benefit for a San Antonio
charity. The event will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 25, through
Sunday, April 27, at the Ruth Taylor Concert Hall. Tickets are $7 for
general admission and $5 for students.
For this production of “The Vagina Monologues,” students will include poetry by Marge Piercy, Anne Sexton, Maya Angelou, and Audre Lorde. A number of student-written monologues as well as a male ensemble that will talk about women from a man’s perspective will enhance the production. The student performers have also added music including an all-woman jazz vocal number at the end of the show. Money raised from the production will be donated to a charity to be determined at a later date. Last year’s student production of “The Vagina Monologues” benefited the Battered Women’s Shelter of Bexar County. The production of the “Vagina Monologues: Vaginas with a Twist” is sponsored by the Trinity Women's History Month Committee and the Women and Gender Studies Planning Committee. For tickets and more information, call (210) 999-4591.
